A clef (from the French for "key")
is a musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes. The Treble,
Bass, Alto and Tenor clefs are the most common and these are the clefs
we need to study for grade V.

This is the treble clef.
Also known as the G clef. This is by far the most common clef
in use today. The lines on the treble clef staff correspond to
the letters E G B D F, and can be remembered with the saying Every
Good Boy Deserves Football. The spaces on the treble clef staff
correspond to the letters F A C E.

This is the bass clef.
Also known as the F clef. The lines on the bass clef staff correspond
to the letters G B D F A, (Good Boys Deserve Fruit Always). The
spaces on the bass clef staff correspond to the letters A C E G,
(All Cows Eat Grass).

This is the alto clef.
Also known as a C clef, the middle line denotes middle 'C'. The
lines on the alto clef correspond to the letters F A C E G and
the spaces on the alto clef correspond to G B D F.

This is the tenor clef.
Also known as a C clef, the fourth line denotes middle 'C'. The
lines on the tenor clef correspond to D F A C and the spaces correspond
to E G B D.

You will be expected to write
notes from one clef to another but keeping them at the same pitch. It
is best to relate the notes to middle 'C' and use this as a reference
when completing your question. The chart below shows the position of middle
'C' on each of the four clefs.
